Kingsbury/Messinger To Host Bearing Workshops For EPRI Pump Users Group

PHILADELPHIA, PA Kingsbury, Inc. will host a one-day Bearing Workshop on rolling element and fluid film bearings at the company's corporate office in Philadelphia on Monday, August 8, 2005 preceding the Pump Users Group annual meeting sponsored by EPRI during that week. Bill Tighe, lead designer of the Messinger Bearing Division will address the group in the morning session on rolling element types, and Kingsbury's Joe Wilkes, Vice President of Engineering, will address the group in an afternoon session on hydrodynamic bearings. A plant tour of Kingsbury's consolidated operations is also scheduled for the following day, August 9, after the Users Group's first morning session.

Every year, EPRI invites end user experts in the utility industry to come together to discuss pump products, swap stories, and attend seminars and workshops to improve the understanding and use of pumps in the electric power generation environment. The meetings typically include optional plant tours of manufacturers who make pumps and components, and/or repair facilities that support pump operations. Plant tours are an excellent venue for participants to see and understand what goes into pump component design, assembly and testing, and can also provide insights on their limitations and causes of failures, to help users operate and maintain equipment more reliably and responsibly. In 2004, Kingsbury also hosted workshops and a plant tour for EPRI's Large Electric Motors Users Group.

Dr. Albert Kingsbury invented the fluid film bearing in 1898, and installed the first hydrodynamic thrust bearing in commercial operation at a hydro facility in 1912. Since then, Kingsbury has been the worldwide leader in fluid film thrust and journal bearing technology. The Messinger Bearing Company also began operations in 1912, and has continued to grow since the brand was acquired by Kingsbury in 2004.
